Collie's Birthday Portrait |
|
A wonderful "lost" and stress-free weekend at the
Blue Boar Inn in Midway, UT, a lovely European-style Bed and Breakfast decorated with authentic paintings and antiques collected by the owners. We discovered the Inn during a summer lunch a couple of years ago and were delighted to be able to return.
We celebrated Collie's birthday, enjoyed watching the snow fall and luxuriated in the lovely decor of the inn. Our corner room was called the Elizabeth Barrett/Robert Browning room. The kingsized four-poster bed was made up with a down comforter and a plethoria of pillows and had a crocheted camopy and was so tall that a ladder was provided to climb in. We laughed about falling out and being injured! Or, worse, slipping off the highly wazed ladder on the way up.

Dangerous Bed |
The inn is staffed with an innkeeper, a wonderful chef, and a dedicated staff of servers. We ate ourselves silly - both breakfast and dinner were included in a fall special. My sprained ankle was tender and prevented us from taking planned hikes in the snow. Saturday, we drove into the darling town of Midway, a replica of a Scandanian Village, stopping for coffee and a tasty blueberry muffin.

We were ready to check out this morning after a five course brunch and were told that our way back to SLC through Parley's Canyon on Interstate 80 was blocked with snow and ice. We got to hang out for another hour until we received the all clear from the innkeeper. The slightly over one-hour trip home was uneventful and we enjoyed the beauty of the snow-covered countryside.
